National Knowledge Network Mission
Full Form of NKNM
What is NKNM?
The National Knowledge Network Mission (NKNM) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, designed to create a high-speed, reliable, and secure network infrastructure for knowledge institutions across the country. It is an evolution of the original National Knowledge Network (NKN) program, now structured as a dedicated mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The NKNM aims to interconnect all universities, research laboratories, libraries, and other knowledge centres, enabling seamless sharing of resources such as supercomputing power, digital libraries, and collaborative tools. In India, the mission is critical for bridging the digital divide in education and research, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. It is used extensively in academic collaborations, e-learning platforms like SWAYAM, and high-performance computing projects. The NKNM is often referenced in competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and UGC NET, particularly in sections on government policies and digital initiatives. By fostering a networked ecosystem, the mission accelerates innovation and supports India’s goals in Science and Technology.
