Global Initiative of Academic Networks
Full Form of GIAN
What is GIAN?
GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) is a flagship program launched by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Government of India, in 2015. It aims to bring international faculty, researchers, and industry experts to Indian higher education institutions to offer short-term courses, workshops, and seminars. The initiative bridges the gap between Indian academia and global best practices, enhancing the quality of teaching and research. GIAN courses cover diverse fields such as engineering, science, management, humanities, and social sciences, and are hosted by premier institutes like IITs, NITs, and central universities. Students and faculty across India can enroll in these courses to gain exposure to cutting-edge topics and earn credits. The program is particularly relevant for competitive exams like GATE, NET, and JRF, as knowledge from GIAN courses can strengthen subject understanding and research proposals. By fostering international collaborations, GIAN plays a vital role in making Indian education globally competitive and aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.
