National Knowledge Library

What is NKL?

The National Knowledge Library (NKL) is a proposed digital repository initiative aimed at consolidating India's educational and research resources into a single online platform. Patterned after the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), NKL would provide free access to textbooks, journal articles, theses, and multimedia content for students, teachers, and researchers across the country. The initiative is designed to bridge the digital divide, particularly in rural and remote areas, by offering offline-capable resources and multi-lingual support. NKL is often discussed in policy circles and academic conferences as a complementary effort to existing government schemes like SWAYAM and eGyankosh. If implemented, it would be managed by a consortium of universities, the Ministry of Education, and content publishers. For competitive exams such as UGC-NET, a question on NKL could test awareness of recent digital library projects in India. The platform aims to support lifelong learning and open access to knowledge for all citizens.
