Information and Library Network
Full Form of INFLIBNET
What is INFLIBNET?
INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) is an autonomous inter-university centre of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India. Established in 1991, it serves as a backbone for library automation, resource sharing, and digital content delivery across academic institutions. INFLIBNET operates major digital platforms such as Shodhganga (a repository of Indian doctoral theses), e-ShodhSindhu (electronic resource consortium), and the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium. These services provide students, researchers, and faculty members with free access to thousands of peer-reviewed journals, books, and databases. INFLIBNET is widely used by universities, colleges, and research organisations throughout India, enabling seamless scholarly communication and reducing duplication of resources. It also offers training programmes and library management software (e.g., SoUL, OJMS) to modernise library operations. For competitive exams like UGC NET or library science examinations, questions on INFLIBNET's role and its initiatives are common. By fostering a networked environment, INFLIBNET significantly enhances the quality of higher education and research output in India.
