National Judicial Grid
Full Form of NJG
What is NJG?
The National Judicial Grid (NJG) is a digital network platform established under the e-Courts project in India, designed to interconnect all High Courts and district and subordinate courts across the country. It serves as a unified backbone for the electronic management of case records, enabling real-time access to case status, cause lists, judgments, and other judicial information for litigants, lawyers, and court administrators. The NJG was conceptualized by the Supreme Court of India and implemented through the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, as part of Phase II of the e-Courts project launched in 2014. It is used daily in courtrooms, judicial registries, and by citizens through the e-Courts portal. The grid significantly reduces delays, improves transparency, and minimizes paper-based work, thereby modernizing the Indian judiciary. For students preparing for judicial services exams, law entrance tests, or general knowledge sections in UPSC and state civil services, understanding NJG is crucial as it represents the government's push toward digital governance and legal reforms.
