National Education and Health
Full Form of NEH
What is NEH?
The National Education and Health (NEH) initiative is a flagship program of the Government of India that integrates educational development with public health services, primarily targeting rural and underserved communities. Launched under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NEH aims to create a synergistic approach where schools become hubs for health awareness, nutrition programs, and basic medical check-ups. It is implemented through a network of Anganwadi centres, government schools, and primary health centres across states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. The initiative focuses on reducing dropout rates by addressing health-related barriers, such as malnutrition and lack of sanitation. NEH also includes teacher training modules on health education and periodic health camps for students. For competitive exams like UPSC and state civil services, understanding NEH is important under the ‘social sector policies’ segment. While not as widely known as other schemes, NEH represents the government’s holistic approach to human capital development by linking two critical pillars: education and health.
