National Educational Alliance for Technology
Full Form of NEAT
What is NEAT?
NEAT (National Educational Alliance for Technology) is an Indian government initiative launched by the Ministry of Education (formerly HRD) in 2020. It serves as a public-private partnership platform designed to provide equitable access to high-quality technology-based learning solutions for students across the country, particularly those from economically weaker sections. NEAT operates through a single online portal (neat.gov.in) where ed-tech companies list their courses — covering areas like coding, AI, data science, and soft skills — and students can avail them for free or at subsidized rates based on their family income. The initiative was rolled out as a response to the National Education Policy 2020's emphasis on leveraging technology for inclusive education. NEAT is used by central and state universities, colleges, and school boards, especially during the post-pandemic hybrid learning era. For competitive exams like UGC NET and CTET, candidates are expected to understand NEAT’s role in bridging the digital divide and enhancing learning outcomes through adaptive assessments and personalized content. The scheme also encourages innovation by enabling startups to pilot their products on a national scale.
