The Local Purchase Committee (LPC) is a formally constituted body within Indian government departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and other public organizations responsible for procuring goods and services locally. Its primary role is to ensure transparency, economy, and efficiency in purchases that fall below the threshold requiring central tender processes, typically up to ₹25,000 as per the General Financial Rules (GFR). The LPC evaluates quotations, verifies vendor credentials, negotiates prices, and recommends the most suitable supplier. It is widely used across all ministries, state governments, local bodies, and defence establishments for routine office supplies, works contracts, and small-value equipment. The committee usually comprises at least three members, often including a finance representative to ensure budget compliance.
