Lok Janshakti Party
Full Form of LKP
What is LKP?
The Lok Janshakti Party (LKP) is a political party in India founded by the late Ram Vilas Paswan in 2000 after a split from the Janata Dal (United). Based primarily in Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh, the party has been a key player in Hindi heartland politics, representing Dalit and backward communities. It has participated in several coalition governments at both centre and state, aligning with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). After Paswan's death in 2020, the party split between his son Chirag Paswan and brother Pashupati Kumar Paras, with both factions recognised by the Election Commission. LKP is noted for its strong support base among the Paswan community and its focus on social justice, reservation, and welfare of marginalized groups. Though often abbreviated as LJP in media and official documents, LKP is used interchangeably. For competitive exams like UPSC, understanding regional parties like LKP is important for the polity and current affairs sections.
