Lok Janshakti Party
Full Form of LJP
What is LJP?
The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is an Indian political party primarily active in the state of Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Founded in 2000 by Ram Vilas Paswan, a prominent Dalit leader, the party has traditionally represented the interests of the Dalit community, particularly the Dusadh sub-caste. The LJP has been a key player in Bihar’s coalition politics, often aligning with larger national alliances such as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and, at times, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). In 2021, following the death of Ram Vilas Paswan, the party split into two factions: one led by his son Chirag Paswan (LJP (Ram Vilas)) and another by his brother Pashupati Kumar Paras (LJP (Paras)). The party is known for its focus on social justice, reservation policies, and development of marginalised communities. In Indian political discourse, the LJP is frequently referenced in discussions about Dalit representation, Bihar electoral dynamics, and coalition governments. For competitive exams like UPSC, State PCS, and NET, questions often appear on the party’s role in the formation of governments, its split, and its impact on the political landscape of Bihar. The LJP continues to be a significant force in Bihar politics, contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections with varying degrees of success.
