Loose Bowel Movements
Full Form of LBM
What is LBM?
Loose Bowel Movements (LBM) refer to abnormally watery or unformed stools, commonly known as diarrhoea. In the Indian medical context, LBM is a frequent symptom encountered in both outpatient clinics and emergency departments, often associated with gastrointestinal infections, food poisoning, or chronic conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is used by doctors, nurses, and medical students when documenting patient histories or writing prescriptions. In India, where poor sanitation and contaminated water contribute to high rates of enteric infections, LBM is especially common during monsoon seasons and among children. Medical exams like NEET PG and AIIMS frequently test knowledge of causes (bacterial, viral, parasitic), dehydration management, and use of oral rehydration salts. Timely recognition of LBM helps prevent complications such as electrolyte imbalance and hypovolemic shock. Understanding this term is essential for aspiring healthcare professionals working in community health settings across India.
