Kerala X-ray Yojana
Full Form of KXY
What is KXY?
Kerala X-ray Yojana (KXY) is a state government health initiative in Kerala, India, aimed at providing free diagnostic X-ray services to economically disadvantaged patients. Launched under the broader umbrella of community health programs, KXY targets early detection of tuberculosis, fractures, and other common conditions where X-ray imaging is critical. The scheme operates through designated primary health centres, taluk hospitals, and medical colleges across all 14 districts of Kerala. Eligible patients include those with Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards, senior citizens, and pregnant women. Referrals from government doctors are mandatory to access the service, and digital records are maintained to prevent fraud. KXY is particularly relevant for rural populations who previously had to travel long distances or pay high costs for private X-ray facilities. With an increasing focus on non-communicable diseases, the scheme has been expanded to include dental X-rays and mammography in select centres. For students preparing for Kerala PSC (Public Service Commission) exams or healthcare entrance tests, KXY often appears as a case study in questions about state health policies and welfare schemes. The programme is monitored by the Kerala Health Department and funded through the State Plan allocation. By reducing out-of-pocket expenses and improving diagnostic reach, KXY has contributed to better health outcomes in the state since its inception in 2018.
