Foundation for Environmental Education
Full Form of FEE
What is FEE?
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development through environmental education. Founded in 1981, FEE runs several flagship programs including Eco-Schools, Blue Flag, Green Key, and Young Reporters for the Environment. In India, FEE collaborates with schools, local authorities, and tourism bodies to implement Eco-Schools and Blue Flag certifications, focusing on waste management, water conservation, and biodiversity. The Eco-Schools programme is particularly widespread, with over 200 Indian schools participating, integrating environmental topics into the curriculum and encouraging student-led action projects. FEE’s Blue Flag certification has been awarded to select Indian beaches like Chandrabhaga and Padubidri, recognizing their high environmental standards. Indian students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC or CTET may encounter questions on environmental organizations and their initiatives, making FEE a relevant topic. The foundation works closely with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and state education boards to align programs with national policies. By fostering a sense of environmental responsibility from a young age, FEE contributes to India's sustainable development goals and green growth agenda.
