Full Form of FBC
What is FBC?
Full Blood Count (FBC) is a common blood test that evaluates the three major types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. In India, FBC is routinely prescribed by doctors for diagnosing a wide range of conditions, including anemia, infections, inflammation, clotting disorders, and even certain cancers. The test provides critical information such as hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, total and differential white cell counts, and platelet count. It is performed in pathology labs across the country, from small clinics to large hospital chains like Apollo or AIIMS. FBC is often part of routine health check-ups, preoperative assessments, and monitoring of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. For medical students preparing for NEET PG or AIIMS exams, understanding the components and clinical significance of FBC is essential. The test is typically done using automated analyzers that provide results within hours. In India, FBC is also used in epidemiological studies and public health screenings. Its simplicity, low cost, and high diagnostic value make it one of the most frequently ordered laboratory investigations in the country.
