Electric Vehicle Zone
Full Form of EVZ
What is EVZ?
An Electric Vehicle Zone (EVZ) is a designated area, typically within a city or along a specific corridor, where access, parking, or operation is prioritised for electric vehicles (EVs) over conventional petrol or diesel vehicles. In India, EVZs are being introduced as part of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme and state-level EV policies to curb urban air pollution and reduce carbon emissions. These zones are often placed in high-traffic commercial districts, near transit hubs, or in central business areas to incentivise EV usage by offering benefits such as reduced parking fees, free charging, and preferential lane access. Municipal corporations in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune have piloted EVZ projects, and the concept is expanding with the growth of public charging infrastructure. For competitive exams like UPSC or state civil services, EVZs are relevant under topics of sustainable urban transport, climate change mitigation, and government schemes like FAME II. The term is commonly used in policy documents, news articles on e-mobility, and discussions about India's transition to clean energy.
