Electronic Voter Verification
Full Form of EVV
What is EVV?
Electronic Voter Verification (EVV) is a digital system used by the Election Commission of India to authenticate the identity of voters at polling stations during elections. It replaces manual paper-based verification by electronically matching a voter's biometrics or identity document details with the electoral roll database. EVV enhances accuracy, reduces impersonation, and speeds up the voting process. The system is typically deployed alongside Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units. EVV is used during Lok Sabha, state assembly, and local body elections across India, especially in urban and high-traffic constituencies. It is also integrated with Aadhaar for seamless verification. For competitive exams like UPSC Civil Services, knowledge of EVV is relevant under the topics of electoral reforms, e-governance, and administrative innovations. The system reflects India's push toward technology-driven, transparent elections.
