E-Shiksha Yojana (Digital Education Scheme)
Full Form of ESY
What is ESY?
E-Shiksha Yojana (ESY) is a flagship digital education initiative launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Education. It aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to quality learning resources for students across the country, especially those in rural and remote areas. The scheme provides free digital textbooks, e-content, video lectures, and interactive modules aligned with the national curriculum from primary to higher secondary levels. It is implemented through state education departments and integrated with platforms like DIKSHA. ESY also supports teacher training via online modules and enables real-time tracking of student progress. The scheme was rolled out under the National Education Policy 2020 and is used in government and aided schools, as well as by students preparing for board exams such as CBSE and state boards. For competitive exams like CTET and UGC NET, ESY serves as a ready reference for digital pedagogy and inclusive education policies. Its role in reducing the cost of traditional textbooks and promoting self-paced learning is particularly highlighted in current affairs sections of civil services exams. Overall, ESY represents a significant step toward digital empowerment in Indian education.
