Educational Qualification Number
Full Form of EQN
What is EQN?
Educational Qualification Number (EQN) is a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to academic certificates, diplomas, and degrees issued by recognized Indian educational institutions. It serves as a verification tool, allowing employers, universities, and government agencies to authenticate the genuineness of a candidate’s qualifications. In India, EQN has gained prominence with the rise of digital certificate platforms like DigiLocker and the National Academic Depository (NAD), which integrate EQN to curb fraudulent degrees and credential misrepresentation. The number is typically printed on mark sheets, provisional certificates, and degree certificates. It is used during job applications, higher education admissions, and government recruitment processes (e.g., UPSC, SSC). Exams such as UGC NET, GATE, and state-level eligibility tests often require candidates to submit their EQN for verification. While not universally standardized across all boards, its adoption is increasing under the National Education Policy 2020. Understanding EQN is crucial for students and job seekers to ensure their documents are valid and traceable in official records.
