National Academic Depository
Full Form of NAD
What is NAD?
The National Academic Depository (NAD) is a digital repository initiative launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Education in 2016. It serves as a secure, online platform for storing, issuing, and verifying academic certificates such as degrees, diplomas, and mark sheets in a tamper-proof digital format. NAD eliminates the need for physical documents, reducing forgery and administrative delays. Registered students can access their academic awards anytime using DigiLocker integration, while employers and educational institutions can instantly verify credentials through the portal. The system operates with the collaboration of universities, boards, and degrees-awarding bodies across India, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020's emphasis on digital transformation. NAD is particularly relevant for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and campus placements where document verification is critical. By centralizing academic records, it streamlines admission processes and job applications. The platform also supports lifelong learning by maintaining a permanent, portable record of one's educational achievements. Over 2000 institutions currently participate, making NAD a cornerstone of India's shift towards paperless governance in the education sector.
