Examination Fee Exemption
Full Form of EFE
What is EFE?
Examination Fee Exemption (EFE) is a policy widely implemented across Indian educational institutions and government schemes to waive the fees that students must pay for appearing in board exams, competitive tests, or university semester assessments. Its primary role is to reduce the financial burden on students from economically weaker sections, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and families living below the poverty line. EFE is typically applicable during annual board examinations (Classes 10 and 12), entrance exams like JEE and NEET, as well as internal college exams. In India, both central and state governments mandate such exemptions through scholarship programmes and public examination boards, ensuring that meritorious students are not denied the opportunity to sit for exams due to inability to pay. The policy is often administered via online application portals where students submit income certificates and caste documents for verification. For competitive exams, EFE may be combined with full tuition fee waivers. Understanding EFE is crucial for students preparing for government exams, as it directly impacts eligibility and the cost of appearing in multiple tests. It also appears in questions related to social justice and education policy in UPSC, SSC, and state service commission exams.
