Electronic Benefit Transfer
Full Form of EBT
What is EBT?
Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) is a system used by the Government of India to transfer welfare subsidies and benefits directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. It is an integral part of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) framework, which aims to eliminate intermediaries and reduce leakage in the distribution of funds for schemes such as LPG subsidy, scholarship payments, and food security allowances. EBT ensures that the intended recipients receive their entitlements in a timely, transparent, and cashless manner. The system relies on the Aadhaar-enabled payment infrastructure to authenticate beneficiaries before releasing funds. EBT is widely used across central and state government programs, including the PM-GRAMIN DIGITAL SAKSHARTA ABHIYAN and various pension schemes. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and banking, knowledge of EBT and its role in financial inclusion and governance is important. The adoption of EBT has significantly improved the efficiency of welfare delivery in India, reducing corruption and ensuring last-mile connectivity of benefits.
