What is DMI?

The Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) is the intelligence agency of the Indian Army, responsible for gathering, analyzing, and disseminating military intelligence to support strategic and tactical operations. It operates within the broader Indian intelligence community alongside agencies like the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). DMI focuses on ground-level threats, foreign military capabilities, and terrain analysis, playing a critical role in border security, counterinsurgency, and counterterrorism operations. Its functions include human intelligence (HUMINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), and imagery intelligence (IMINT) collection.
