Defence Intelligence Agency
Full Form of DIA
What is DIA?
The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) is an Indian military intelligence organization responsible for coordinating and consolidating intelligence from the three armed forces—Army, Navy, and Air Force. Established in 2002 following the Kargil Review Committee's recommendations, the DIA functions under the Ministry of Defence and works closely with other national intelligence agencies like the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Intelligence Bureau (IB). Its primary role is to provide integrated intelligence to the Chiefs of Staff Committee and support strategic decision-making for national security. The DIA is headquartered in New Delhi and plays a crucial part in counter-terrorism operations, border management, and maritime security. It conducts threat assessments, monitors adversarial activities, and facilitates inter-agency cooperation. For defence aspirants and students appearing for UPSC or military exams, understanding the DIA's structure and functions is important as questions related to India's intelligence framework frequently appear in competitive exams. The agency embodies the military's push towards a unified intelligence apparatus, improving India's readiness against external threats.
