District Industrial Zone
Full Form of DIZ
What is DIZ?
A District Industrial Zone (DIZ) is a designated geographical area within a district, identified by state governments in India to promote concentrated industrial development. It serves as a planning tool to decentralize industrial growth, reduce urban migration, and create local employment. DIZs are typically established under state industrial policies or through district-level initiatives, often in collaboration with agencies like the District Industries Centre (DIC). These zones offer incentives such as land subsidies, tax exemptions, and simplified regulatory approvals to attract small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The concept gained traction after the National Manufacturing Policy and various state industrial corridor projects emphasized balanced regional development. DIZs are distinct from larger Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as they focus on local resources and labour, addressing the needs of micro and small industries common in Indian semi-urban and rural areas. They are used by entrepreneurs, investors, and government officials during land allocation and investment promotion. For competitive exams like UPSC and state civil services, understanding DIZs is relevant under economic geography and industrial policy topics.
