Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu
Full Form of CKP
What is CKP?
Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu, commonly abbreviated as CKP, is a Hindu sub-caste primarily found in the state of Maharashtra, India. Historically, the CKP community served as administrators, record-keepers, and warriors under the Maratha Empire and earlier dynasties such as the Bahmani Sultanate and Vijayanagara Empire. They are considered one of the three major Kayastha sub-castes in Western India, alongside the Kāyastha Prabhu (KPP) and others. The term "Chandraseniya" refers to a lineage tracing back to Chandrasena, a mythical ancestor. CKPs played a crucial role in revenue management, documentation, and military campaigns, often occupying positions like Deshpande (village accountants) and Kulkarni (land record keepers). In modern times, the community has diversified into various professions including education, business, and government service. Their social status and historical contributions are recognized in Indian societal discussions, though they are classified under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in some states for affirmative action purposes. Understanding the CKP community is relevant for civil service exams like UPSC and MPSC, especially in questions related to Indian society, caste systems, and regional history of Maharashtra. The acronym CKP is also used in colloquial contexts to refer to members of this community during conversations about social structures and heritage.
