What is CGA?
The Controller General of Accounts (CGA) is a top-level accounting authority under the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It heads the Indian Civil Accounts Service and is responsible for establishing and managing a sound accounting system for all central government departments. The CGA ensures that government financial transactions are recorded accurately and transparently, prepares the annual Union Government Finance Accounts, and oversees the implementation of the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). This role is critical for maintaining fiscal discipline and accountability in public spending. The CGA office is based in New Delhi and works closely with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) for audit purposes.
