Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation
Full Form of CCE
What is CCE?
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is a student assessment system introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India in 2009. It replaced the traditional year-end examination model with a holistic evaluation that tracks a learner's progress throughout the academic year. The system comprises two components: Formative Assessment (FA), which includes quizzes, projects, and class participation; and Summative Assessment (SA), which is the term-end written test. CCE was designed to reduce exam stress, encourage co-curricular participation, and provide regular feedback to students, teachers, and parents. It was implemented in CBSE-affiliated schools for classes 6 to 10 until 2017, when it was revised and partially replaced by a new assessment pattern. Despite changes, CCE remains a key topic in teacher recruitment exams such as CTET and state-level TETs, where questions often focus on its objectives, types of assessment, and impact on learning outcomes. The system emphasized grading over marks, with grades assigned across scholastic and co-scholastic areas. Its legacy continues in the competency-based approach of the National Education Policy 2020.
