National Curriculum Framework
Full Form of NCF
What is NCF?
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) is a guiding document formulated by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in India. It provides the philosophical and pedagogical foundation for school education across the country. The NCF outlines objectives, content, pedagogy, and assessment methods to ensure holistic development of learners. It emphasizes child-centred learning, critical thinking, and experiential education. The first NCF was published in 1975, followed by revisions in 1988, 2000, and the most influential NCF 2005, which advocated for constructivist approaches and inclusive education. The framework influences textbooks, teacher training, and classroom practices in all states and union territories. NCF is particularly relevant for candidates preparing for teaching eligibility exams like CTET and state TETs, as well as for B.Ed. and M.Ed. curricula. It also aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which proposes a new NCF to integrate contemporary needs such as vocational skills and digital literacy. The NCF serves as a benchmark for curriculum development, ensuring uniformity and quality in Indian education while accommodating regional diversity.
