Bharatiya Suraksha Vahini
Full Form of BSV
What is BSV?
Bharatiya Suraksha Vahini (BSV) is a civil defence organisation in India established to assist the state and central governments in maintaining internal security and managing disasters. It operates as a volunteer force that supports police and paramilitary forces during natural calamities, riots, and public emergencies. The BSV was formally constituted under the Civil Defence Act of 1968 and functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its roles include evacuation, first aid, rescue operations, and essential supply distribution in crisis situations. The organisation is particularly active during floods, cyclones, and earthquakes in vulnerable regions of India. BSV personnel undergo basic training in disaster response and community safety. For students appearing for UPSC, SSC, or state-level competitive exams, knowing about BSV is relevant under the broad category of security forces and civil defence mechanisms in India. Though less famous than the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), BSV represents the grassroots volunteer spirit in India's multi-layered security framework.
