Bharat Gaurav Nidhi
Full Form of BGN
What is BGN?
Bharat Gaurav Nidhi (BGN) is a merit-cum-means scholarship scheme launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. It aims to provide financial assistance to students from notified minority communities—Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis—pursuing technical and professional courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The scholarship covers tuition fees and provides a maintenance allowance, enabling talented students from economically weaker backgrounds to access quality education in fields such as engineering, medicine, management, and law. BGN is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal and is disbursed directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. It is particularly relevant for students appearing for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and CLAT, as it supports their higher education dreams. The scheme operates on a first-come-first-served basis within the allocated budget, and applications are typically invited at the beginning of the academic year. For UPSC aspirants, understanding BGN is important for questions on social welfare and minority affairs policies.
