Army Goodwill Force
Full Form of AGF
What is AGF?
The Army Goodwill Force (AGF) is a specialised operational formation of the Indian Army primarily deployed in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Established with the objective of winning hearts and minds, the AGF combines counter-insurgency operations with humanitarian assistance and community development initiatives. Its soldiers engage in local outreach, provide medical aid, support education, and facilitate infrastructure projects in conflict-affected areas. The force operates alongside regular army units and paramilitary forces such as the Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF. The AGF’s role is especially prominent during election duties, natural disasters, and festivals where it ensures security and public welfare. It is used extensively in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control to foster goodwill and reduce alienation. For defence exams like the Combined Defence Services (CDS) and National Defence Academy (NDA), understanding the AGF’s mandate is relevant for questions on Indian Army operations and counter-insurgency strategies. The force represents the Indian Army’s dual approach of firmness against militancy and compassion toward civilians.
