What is XAT?

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level management entrance examination conducted annually by Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). It is one of the oldest and most prestigious MBA entrance exams in India, taken by over 1 lakh candidates each year. XAT scores are accepted by more than 250 business schools across the country, including XLRI, XIMB, SPJIMR, and other top B-schools. The exam assesses candidates on verbal and logical ability, decision-making, quantitative aptitude, and general knowledge. It is typically held in the first week of January. XAT is especially significant for students aiming for admission into XLRI’s flagship programs like PGDM in Business Management and Human Resource Management. The exam also includes a descriptive essay section and a separate online test for analytical writing. For MBA aspirants, a good XAT score can open doors to prestigious institutes and scholarships. In the competitive landscape of Indian management education, XAT stands alongside CAT and GMAT as a key determinant of admission to top-tier programs.
