Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment
Full Form of WEE
What is WEE?
WEE, or Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment, is a flagship scheme under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India. Launched to foster a culture of entrepreneurship among women, it provides financial assistance, training, mentorship, and market access to aspiring and existing women entrepreneurs. The scheme is implemented through a network of institutions such as the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), State MSME Development Institutes, and industry associations. WEE is widely referenced in government policy documents, MSME development programs, and startup ecosystems across states. It aims to bridge the gender gap in business ownership by offering subsidized loans, skill development workshops, and handholding support. The scheme is particularly relevant for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and banking exams where questions on government initiatives for women are common. WEE also aligns with the broader national objectives of 'Make in India' and 'Skill India', promoting self-reliance and economic independence among women.
