Voice User Interface
Full Form of VUI
What is VUI?
A Voice User Interface (VUI) allows users to interact with computers, smartphones, and other devices through voice commands rather than touch or keyboard inputs. In India, VUI technology has gained rapid adoption with the rise of multilingual voice assistants like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and homegrown platforms such as AI4Bharat's Navarasa and Maha-Mriga. These interfaces are widely used in smart speakers, mobile banking apps, ride-hailing services (Ola, Uber), and customer support IVR systems, making technology accessible to a large population with limited literacy or typing skills. Indian developers focus on supporting regional languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, etc.) to cater to diverse users. Exam relevance: VUI is a key topic in computer science, artificial intelligence, and user experience design curricula for competitive exams like GATE, UGC NET, and NIELIT, often appearing in questions about human-computer interaction and natural language processing.
