Text-to-Speech
Full Form of TTS
What is TTS?
Text-to-Speech, commonly abbreviated as TTS, is a form of assistive technology that converts written digital text into spoken voice output using computer-generated audio. The technology relies on natural language processing, machine learning, and voice synthesis engines to read out digital content aloud in a human-like manner. In India, TTS plays a significant role in making digital services accessible to the visually impaired, supporting regional language content on government portals, and powering voice-based interfaces in apps. It is widely used in Indian banking apps, IRCTC ticket booking systems, and government schemes like the Digital India initiative where multilingual support is essential. TTS also drives virtual assistants such as Google Assistant, Alexa, and various IVR systems used by Indian telecom companies. Indian language TTS engines now support Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and several other regional languages, making it vital for inclusive technology. For competitive exams, understanding TTS is relevant for computer awareness sections in IBPS, SSC, RRB, and UPSC questions related to emerging technologies and digital India initiatives.
