What is VPG?
Variable Power Generation, commonly abbreviated as VPG, refers to a category of power generation systems where the electrical output capacity can be dynamically adjusted based on demand, availability of resources, or grid conditions. Unlike traditional fixed-output thermal plants, VPG systems typically integrate renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic, wind turbines, or hybrid configurations combined with smart inverters, battery storage, and automated control units to modulate electricity production in real time. In India, VPG technology has become a cornerstone of the nation's clean energy transition, supporting flagship programmes like the National Solar Mission, the Green Hydrogen Mission, and the broader objective of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
