Village Level Entrepreneur
Full Form of VLA
What is VLA?
A Village Level Entrepreneur, commonly abbreviated as VLA or VLE, is a local individual appointed or self-selected to operate Common Service Centers (CSCs) in rural areas of India under the Digital India initiative. These entrepreneurs deliver essential government, financial, educational, and digital services to villagers who otherwise have limited access to urban infrastructure. VLAs play a crucial role in bridging the rural-urban digital divide by offering services such as Aadhaar enrolment, banking transactions, insurance, utility bill payments, agricultural advisories, and skill training. They also promote digital literacy through programs like PMGDISHA. The role gained significant prominence after the launch of CSC 2.0, which aimed to set up at least one CSCs in every gram panchayat. VLEs typically earn commissions on transactions and services rendered. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state public service commissions, questions on Digital India, CSC, and the role of village entrepreneurs frequently appear under governance and economy sections.
