Videshi Kalyan Kosh
Full Form of VKK
What is VKK?
Videshi Kalyan Kosh, commonly abbreviated as VKK, is a welfare fund established by the Government of India to provide financial and legal assistance to Indian workers who encounter distress while employed abroad. The fund is administered by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and was created to support overseas Indian workers in situations such as non-payment of wages, accidents, medical emergencies, illegal retention of passports by employers, and even repatriation of mortal remains. The scheme was previously known as the Indian Community Welfare Fund and was restructured to extend broader coverage across Indian missions globally. Indian workers, particularly emigrant labourers holding an Emigration Check Required (ECR) passport, can apply for support through Indian embassies and consulates using this fund. The VKK plays a crucial role in protecting the rights and dignity of Indian workers, especially in Gulf countries and Southeast Asia. For competitive exams, questions on VKK frequently appear in the General Awareness section, particularly in UPSC, SSC, and banking examinations.
