Value Added Course
Full Form of VAC
What is VAC?
A Value Added Course (VAC) is an additional educational program offered alongside the main degree curriculum in Indian colleges and universities to enhance students' practical skills and employability. Introduced widely under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and adopted by institutions implementing the National Education Policy 2020, VACs typically cover topics beyond the core syllabus such as communication skills, digital literacy, financial management, soft skills, foreign languages, and emerging technologies. These short-term certificate courses are usually conducted over 30 to 40 hours and carry additional credits that count toward a student's academic transcript. In India, VACs play a significant role in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, helping graduates stand out in competitive job markets. They are offered by both government and private universities, polytechnics, and autonomous colleges across states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi. VACs are particularly useful for students preparing for campus placements, competitive examinations, or those seeking to develop supplementary expertise. Understanding VACs is important for Indian students because completing them is often mandatory for degree completion under CBCS and NEP frameworks.
