United Nations Headquarters
Full Form of UNH
What is UNH?
The United Nations Headquarters (UNH) refers to the iconic headquarters complex of the United Nations, located along the East River in Manhattan, New York City, USA. Established in 1952, the complex serves as the central administrative hub where the UN General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, and other principal organs convene to address pressing global issues ranging from international peacekeeping and human rights to climate change and sustainable development. For India, which became a founding member of the United Nations in October 1945, the UNH holds immense diplomatic significance in shaping its multilateral foreign policy. India maintains a Permanent Mission to the UN at the headquarters, where seasoned diplomats represent New Delhi's positions on critical matters such as counter-terrorism, international trade, and Security Council reforms. Indian Prime Ministers, External Affairs Ministers, and other senior officials regularly travel to the UNH to deliver addresses at the General Assembly debate and participate in high-level summits. The acronym UNH frequently appears in Indian newspapers, UPSC preparation guides, and competitive exam questions that test knowledge of international organisations and Indian foreign policy.
