Unfair Means
Full Form of UFM
What is UFM?
Unfair Means, commonly abbreviated as UFM, refers to dishonest or unethical practices adopted by candidates during examinations. In the Indian education system, the term is used extensively by universities, schools, and examination bodies like CBSE, UGC, and various state boards to describe any malpractice that gives an examinee an undue advantage. UFM cases typically involve copying from other candidates, possessing unauthorized study material, electronic devices, chits, or notes, communicating with other students during the exam, or impersonation. When a candidate is caught, the invigilator or flying squad files a UFM case, which can lead to severe consequences including cancellation of the exam, debarment from future examinations, rustication from the institution, or even legal action under Indian penal codes. The UFM committee of the respective institution investigates the matter and decides the penalty. This term is highly relevant for Indian students appearing in board exams, university examinations, and competitive tests like JEE, NEET, or banking examinations where strict vigilance is maintained to ensure fair conduct.
