Tech and Vocational Literacy
Full Form of TVL
What is TVL?
Tech and Vocational Literacy, commonly abbreviated as TVL, is an academic stream offered at the senior secondary level in Indian schools, primarily under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) framework. It focuses on building practical skills and industry-relevant competencies among students who wish to pursue careers in technical trades, crafts, and vocational fields rather than traditional academic paths. The TVL curriculum integrates classroom learning with hands-on training in areas such as information technology, retail, hospitality, automotive technology, healthcare, and beauty culture. Introduced as part of the broader Skill India mission, it aims to make secondary education more employment-oriented and reduce the skill gap in the Indian workforce. Students enrolled in TVL streams often appear for CBSE board examinations and can also pursue additional certifications recognised under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). This stream is particularly useful for students aiming to join the workforce directly after Class 10 or 12, or those planning to pursue diploma courses in polytechnics and industrial training institutes (ITIs). TVL holds significant relevance in competitive exams related to skill development and vocational training schemes run by the government.
