Therapeutic Use Exemption
Full Form of TUE
What is TUE?
A Therapeutic Use Exemption, commonly referred to as TUE, is an official permission granted to athletes who need to use specific medications that are otherwise prohibited under anti-doping regulations due to genuine medical conditions. In India, the National Anti-Doping Agency, widely known as NADA, is the principal body responsible for reviewing, approving, or rejecting TUE applications filed by sportspersons competing at national and international levels. The exemption covers substances and methods listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List when there is documented medical necessity, such as asthma inhalers, insulin for diabetic athletes, ADHD medications, or beta-blockers for heart conditions. Athletes must apply in advance through the ADAMS online platform, submitting detailed medical records and supporting documents from certified physicians, after which a panel of medical experts evaluates the case. This process ensures a level playing field in competitive sport while safeguarding the health and well-being of athletes. TUE is highly relevant for students preparing for medical, pharmacy, sports science, and law examinations, including UGC-NET, NEET-PG, and various sports management entrance tests across India.
