Table Top Exercise
Full Form of TTX
What is TTX?
A Table Top Exercise (TTX) is a discussion-based simulation activity in which key stakeholders and emergency response personnel gather around a table to walk through a hypothetical crisis scenario step by step. In India, TTXs are widely conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), state disaster management bodies, the Reserve Bank of India for banking sector preparedness, and the armed forces to test coordination and decision-making without deploying actual resources. These exercises help participants identify gaps in existing Standard Operating Procedures, improve inter-agency communication, and validate emergency response plans for events such as earthquakes, cyclones, cyberattacks, or financial crises. The format typically involves an injected scenario followed by group discussion on actions, responsibilities, and timelines. TTXs are also used in corporate sectors, hospitals, and educational institutions to rehearse business continuity and safety protocols. For aspirants preparing for UPSC Civil Services, NABARD, and state public service commissions, understanding TTX is essential as questions on disaster preparedness, mock drills, and institutional readiness frequently appear in the General Studies and current affairs sections.
