Task Load Index
Full Form of TLX
What is TLX?
The Task Load Index, popularly known as NASA-TLX, is a multidimensional assessment tool developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to measure the perceived workload experienced by individuals while performing a task. It evaluates six key dimensions: mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, performance, effort, and frustration. In India, this instrument is extensively used in medical research, particularly in assessing the cognitive and physical workload of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in high-pressure environments like operation theatres and intensive care units. Indian engineering institutions, aviation training academies, and human factors research laboratories also employ the TLX to study operator workload across various simulated and real-world scenarios. Postgraduate students in medicine, psychology, and ergonomics frequently include NASA-TLX in their thesis work and research publications. It holds significant value for UGC NET, AIIMS, and JNU entrance preparation where research methodology questions are asked.
