Teaching Knowledge Test
Full Form of TKT
What is TKT?
The Teaching Knowledge Test, commonly known as TKT, is an internationally recognised qualification developed by Cambridge Assessment English, a part of the University of Cambridge. It assesses the core teaching knowledge that English language teachers need in order to work effectively in primary, secondary, or adult teaching contexts. In India, TKT has gained significant popularity among aspiring and practising English teachers, particularly those looking to strengthen their pedagogical skills or seeking employment in private schools, language institutes, and international curricula such as IB and IGCSE. The test is divided into multiple modules covering language and background to language teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and the teaching of different language systems and skills. It is administered several times a year at authorised exam centres across major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Many Indian teachers pursue TKT alongside or after completing their B.Ed programmes to enhance their resume. For competitive teaching examinations and school interviews, holding a TKT certificate from Cambridge adds considerable weight to a candidate's profile.
