What is THH?
Telangana Haritha Haram, abbreviated as THH, is the flagship afforestation program of the Government of Telangana, launched on July 3, 2015, by then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The initiative was conceptualised with the goal of increasing the state's green cover from around 24 percent to 33 percent of its total geographical area, making it one of the most ambitious tree-plantation drives in India. Under THH, the government organises massive seasonal plantation drives involving government departments, public sector undertakings, educational institutions, local bodies, NGOs, and thousands of active citizens who plant saplings of native, fruit-bearing, and shade-giving species. The program is coordinated by the Telangana Ku Haritha Hakkula Vedika and receives strong support from the Forest Department, which monitors the survival of saplings through follow-up care and geo-tagging. Over the years, the state has recorded the planting of nearly 230 crore saplings, earning Telangana recognition as a national leader in green initiatives. THH is frequently mentioned in competitive exams, particularly those covering state schemes, environment, and Indian government policies, making it an important topic for aspirants of UPSC, TSPSC, and other state-level examinations.
