Self-Reporting Questionnaire
Full Form of SRQ
What is SRQ?
The Self-Reporting Questionnaire, commonly known as SRQ, is a screening instrument developed by the World Health Organization to detect common mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and somatoform conditions in primary care and community settings. It consists of 20 yes-or-no items that patients can fill out themselves or have administered by a health worker, making it especially useful in low-resource environments where trained mental health professionals are scarce. In India, the SRQ has been widely adopted by researchers, public health programmes, and non-governmental organisations working in rural and underserved areas, particularly in states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha, to identify individuals who may need further psychiatric evaluation. The tool has been translated and validated in several Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, ensuring cultural and linguistic accuracy. It is commonly referenced in competitive medical entrance exams, nursing syllabi, and public health coursework across Indian universities.
