Responsive Web Design
Full Form of RWD
What is RWD?
Responsive Web Design, commonly abbreviated as RWD, is an approach to web development that ensures websites render optimally across a wide range of devices and screen sizes. The technique uses flexible grids, fluid images, and CSS media queries to adapt the layout dynamically based on the visitor's device, whether it is a desktop, tablet, or smartphone. In India, RWD has become essential due to the massive surge in mobile internet users, with the country now having over 700 million smartphone users who access the web primarily through handheld devices. Indian IT companies, startups, and government portals such as MyGov, DigiLocker, and the official income tax e-filing site follow responsive design principles to ensure accessibility for citizens across urban and rural areas. The approach is widely taught in computer science curricula and is a key skill tested in competitive exams like GATE, UGC NET Computer Science, and various state-level technical recruitment tests.
