What is QKX?
Quantum Key Exchange (QKX) is a secure communication method that uses quantum mechanics to distribute encryption keys between parties. Unlike classical key exchange, QKX relies on quantum bits (qubits) and exploits principles like superposition and entanglement to detect eavesdropping. In India, QKX is an emerging technology explored by organizations such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Science and Technology for secure satellite links and government communications. It is primarily used in advanced research labs and is gradually being considered for defense and banking applications to counter cyber threats. Students pursuing degrees in physics, computer science, or information security may encounter QKX in topics related to quantum cryptography. While not yet mainstream, QKX holds significant exam relevance for competitive exams like GATE and NET where quantum computing questions appear. The technology is still in experimental stages in India, but ongoing projects at institutes like IISc and IITs aim to develop indigenous QKX systems.
